Position Overview

This seasonal position provides support in all packaging and shipping activities of Little Qualicum Cheeseworks. Ideally, you will develop a wide range of food handling and equipment skills related to the food manufacturing industry.

Pay & Hours

·       This position requires flexibility in hours. There are times when more hours are required to accomplish projects and deadlines need to be met. Use time wisely.

·       The work week will generally be 35-40 hours, Monday to Friday. The workday will be from 7:00 am until work is completed. The amount of work will vary depending on the day of the week, upcoming orders, etc.

·       Starting base salary will be $18.50/hour.

·       This position starts in May going till end of September/October

Objectives/Responsibilities/Duties

1.     Packaging, Shipping and Stock Control

·       Maximize work enjoyment of the entire team while meeting packaging, shipping, and retail requirements.

·       Ensure quality is maintained in each aspect of the packaging process.

·       Ensure orders are assembled, weighed, and tracked accurately.

2.     Inventory

·       Keep a general knowledge of stock on hand and upcoming orders/specials etc.

·       Problem solve if/when shortage or over-stocking occurs to minimize waste

3.     Quality Assurance

·       Manage risk of contamination with diligent cleaning/sanitation of workspace.

·       Ensure food safety procedures are adhered to.

·       Communicate with and provide information to the quality assurance manager to test for quality and safety of all products.

4.     Cleaning and Sanitizing

·       Look after daily/weekly cleaning and sanitizing checklists in packaging areas and other common areas as needed.

General 

·       Work hard, conscientiously and honestly in all undertakings. Respect the confidentiality of the business and future plans, and do not share them with others outside of the business.

·       Be friendly and informative at all points of contact with the general public, farm staff, volunteers, and industry colleagues.

·       Initiate, innovate, create, improvise, and experiment.  Be willing to work independently, but also seek ways to work as part of the LQC and MSF teams, and to make yourself and your ideas heard. Be purposeful in learning in areas of new development or specialization.

·       Be willing to work flexible hours as necessary.

Experience & skills:

Experience an asset but not required.

High attention to detail required

Must be able to lift 50 lbs
